I'm Thomas Schinabeck, a digital designer, product & brand manager, who loves to help creating new companies. Currently I am building things for Automattic, the company behind, Tumblr, Woo Commerce and many more. Besides that I spend as much time as possible in the mountains and obsess about snow reports.

Before joining Automattic I was product design lead at Teleport Inc (acquired 2017 by Topia), a data platform and service that helps you to find the best place to live and move there.

Before that I built Fork, a place for sharing projects, learning and building things together.

From 2011-2013 I was CEO and co-founder of dotdotdot, a VC funded social reading platform, based in Berlin.

Before that I was working as freelancer for brands and agencies like MTV, Ableton, Microsoft, VIVA, VW, Mercedes, Dr. Hauschka, PEZ, CDLX, KircherBurkhardt or artists like Jan Delay.

As a Marketing Manager I worked from 2006 to 2008 at MTV Networks, Berlin.

At the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (WU Wien) I started writing my PhD thesis at the Institute for Management Information Systems - researching about the impact of digitalization on the media & entertainment industry.

In 2004 I graduated at LMU Munich as Master of Business Administration with focus on Marketing, Information Management and New Media.

And there was a time when I was a concert booker and made a living by traveling around the world for an artist agency.

I design digital products, do consulting, write essays, give talks, write code and develop product strategies that sometimes become companies.

You can hire me ;). I am available for consulting and contract work to help you building digital products or tackle design and strategy challenges.

In a job description these tags might appear:
Product Design, Creative Director, UX/UI Design, Product Management, Digital Brand Management, Digital Business Strategy, Growth Marketing, Jack of All Trades.

I love to create product strategies and UX/UI designs for everything that has a screen or is connected to the internet. This could mean just developing an UX strategy or having a workshop, up to being in charge of the full agile development process from idea creation and prototyping, to UI design implementation and optimising product growth via several product iteration cycles.

Things that I am currently thinking about:
-> Design optimisation with data
-> Behavioural science
-> Service design
-> Atomic Design Systems
-> Super Normal Design
-> Building digital stuff to last / Wabi-Sabi
-> JS & Rails
-> AI x UX
-> AR x UX
-> Blockchain & Smart Contracts
-> Personal Knowledge Bases
Shout at me on Twitter if you are curious about some of that stuff...

In my free time I love spending time in the mountains, in front of concert stages or behind some reading devices. I enjoy traveling especially if the destination involves some backcountry skiing. There was a time where I played a lot of table tennis. Occasionally I am still obsessing about soccer.
